HYPOCHLORITE PLANT, KEWDALE
CHEMICAL PLANT UPGRADE
DELIVERED ON TIME
In 2008, Austline fabricated, installed and commissioned an upgrade to Orica’s Hypochlorite Plant in Kewdale, Western Australia.
When Austline Fabrications was engaged, the project was running eight weeks behind schedule. Austline was offered an incentive if all components were manufactured, installed and commissioned within a tight 12 week timeframe. Austline delivered all components on time.
Workshop Manager Scott Polkinghorne said “the workshop team and installers really stepped up to the plate to meet the project deadline.”
“The challenge was being able to deliver all components within the 12 week schedule, without compromising quality. We successfully x-rayed 100% of all welds to guarantee the highest quality of our product. We also instigated a project management plan with S curve tracking to prevent slippage and ensure all deadlines were met.”
SCOPE OF WORKS
The scope of works delivered to the project EPCM Lycopodium included the fabrication, installation and commissioning of;
- SMP Installation Works
- Thermoplastic piping
- Tank loading platform
- Installation of all valves, vessels, pumps, filters and instruments as required
- Backflow prevention devices
- SS, CS & Lined piping supply, fabrication and installation
- QA & Testing including dry air dry tests and 100%NDT testing
- Assistance with commissioning
- All MDR and ITP documentation
Austline’s knowledge and experience in chemical treatment tanks was especially critical in the commissioning stage. Due to the chemical composition of hypochlorite, additional cleaning was required prior to commissioning. The process involved steam cleaning followed by air drying and finally dry air drying to completely remove any moisture within the pipework, which is combustible upon contact with hypochlorite.
